about

Words from the DOC: Rapping since for ever, came a time when I felt like I had to achieve myself in making an EP. At that time, I was looking for instrumentals and at some point during a bar concert, I met a girl whose boyfriend was a beatmaker… « Oldschool? » I asked, and the answer was what you have today. I came in Jonʼs studio with my 25$ beats, thinking that I was going to kick it one shot but reality hit me hard. The beats were sh*t, my texts were sh*t, and this guy had gifts. From that moment, I realized I had to write everything again to compete. We spent countless hours listening to samples, making beats, drinking beer, smoking weed. On my side, I was always writing something or trying to rap few words again, again and again for a verse. Through time we developed alchemy. Me rapping over a metronome, and then him, reworking samples. Thatʼs how MAJIN came into shape. Thinking it was it, I left my comfort to go to Sofia, Bulgaria where I live now. And out of nowhere Jon told me: hey, I sent the EP to some friends, but now I already have 4 remixes coming. 2 weeks later, the small project came in with 11 song remixes… All I have to say is thank you God for hip-hop, thank you God for theses people, may Hip-Hop never die. Amen. Words from Jon Duff: Last year my girlfriend ran into this guy in a bar: a true hip hop head from my town and I didnʼt know him. We clicked and he came to my place to pitch his project to me: a short debut EP with instrumentals bought on youtube. We recorded a first batch of demos, and as soon As he left the studio, I deleted the instrumentals and made my own instead. This trick convinced him to give me the full production of it. We recorded a few versions, erasing the beats, changing lyrics, until we found our workfIow: he recorded the vocals over a metronome and then we made the beat together to fit the vibe. Almost every track of this EP has been made this way. The day after the very last session, D.O.C. was on a plane to Sofia, Bulgaria, where he lives since. I sent the demos to some friends asking if they could eventually remix some tracks, and it snowballed into something else.. I received so much remixes from all around the world. So its not totally a EP, not totally a LP, but I think itʼs a dope record.
